Why Community is Important When You’re Starting Over

Hey girl hey… how are you? How are things???

Okay, let me just say… I failed.

I started something and didn’t continue. But honestly, this is part of the process, right? You start, you fall off the horse, and you get back on again.

I had every intention to start a blog and be consistent with my journaling blog, then 2025 happened. If you’ve been living under a rock, Donald Trump was elected, DOGE ran rampant, and all H. E. double hockey sticks started happening in America. Public health, government, and many other jobs were cut, leaving many Americans jobless.

My husband and I dreaded the news every day, wondering when job cuts would catch us because we both work in government and public health roles. Thank God we are both still employed, but 2025 was still a very difficult year.

And when life feels uncertain, a lot of things fall to the side. For me, it was this blog.

But the reason I started this blog still matters.

I watched a YouTube video some time ago… I love learning from YouTube. The creator talked about how to fill fulfilled in life you had to show show up for yourself, your family, and your community, and it really stuck with me. I wanted life to change and I was looking for answers. Her questions in the video made me think about how I was showing up for my community. At the time, I had little to no community engagement, and I knew I needed to change that. I wanted to be more intentional about how I showed up in the world.

So I started taking small steps. My husband and I became more active in church, I joined my local community orchestra, and I wanted to build an online community as well.

And recently, I remembered this blog.

Because I know there are women right now who need community, who need encouragement, and who need a space where they feel seen. African American women’s unemployment rates have risen from roughly 5.5% to nearly 7% in 2025 to now. With unemployment rates rising, and more and more jobs becoming obsolete due to A.I. having a strong community where the future seems unsure, is one of the best forms of care we can do.

So this is me starting again.

This time I am choosing to be intentional. I am choosing to be consistent. And I am building something that serves my community while also opening doors for my future.

On this blog I want to talk about real life. Growth, finances, community, career, and just figuring things out as we go. We are all experiencing life together, the more we can help each other the easier the growing pains can be.

If you’ve ever had to start over, if life got overwhelming and you had to pause, this is your reminder that you can begin again and that you are not alone.

If you are starting over lets chat about what your doing to change things up this year. Do you have any topics you would like to discuss?
